GIG Helps Reverend Build School in Haiti
Behind the story with Toan Lam: a personal account
This inspiring story was sparked by one of my former students, Julian Cohen, who was part of a pre-college summer bridge program at a university where I teach.
Julian was a junior at a New Jersey High School when he called me to tell me he saw our story featuring Reverend Alerte, who needed help to fulfill his dream: building a school in his home town of Grande-Saline, Haiti.
Julian was inspired to do some research about someone outstanding in his neighborhood who is helping Haiti. He shot, edited and posted his story on GIG's website and within a week, students at Willow Glen Middle and High School in San Jose, Calif. synchronized their talents and orchestrated a winter concert.
Together, they raised a total of $1,643.85. Way to go Julian and Willow Glen!
